Oscar the Very Important Dog
News from the SPCA

Winelands SPCA and the KWV Art Museum would like you to meet a very famous dog and his owner. They will be in Montagu on June 3!

When Oscar was adopted by Joanne Lefson from the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, his life was turned into an amazing adventure. Many of you may have seen the story on Carte Blanche.

Joanne wanted to promote the adoption of dogs from shelters and to encourage sterilizing to reduce the horrendous number of unwanted dogs that are put down every day. And she did it in a most unusual way.  She set off with Oscar on a “World Woof Tour”  to all countries that did not have quarantine regulations.  The journey took them nearly a year and now they are coming to Montagu to tell us about their travels. It will be an evening presentation, with our favourite winter warmer of soups and breads and something stronger to counteract the cold. Tickets will be available from mid-May and will cost R80.

In addition, children are being invited, through their schools, to take part in an art competition with the theme “A Dog’s Life”.  All entries will be displayed and judged in time for the 3rd.

Oscar will meet the contestants, and the winners will receive a framed photograph of themselves with him. All other entries will receive a merit certificate.

Please contact us for more details if your school is not yet taking part in this exciting event.

So, whether you are 6 or 96 years old, you will not want to miss Oscar and Joanne’s visit to Montagu.
